Halgrad Playtesting: The Latest
The Halgrad Playtesting packs will be going out for closed public testing later this week, but our internal play-testers have been hard at work trying out the game, testing the bounds of the rules and creating a huge range of warbands to make sure that Halgrad is the very best it can be.
One such game took place recently, seeing the Gold Elves of Vohldramar go toe-to-toe with the Northmen in The Culling, a Scenario that required players to dish out as much pain as possible, tallying up every Wound they inflicted over the course of the game to determine a winner. The scenario took place in one of Halgrad's ruined markets, which had been dubbed 'The Greymarket', borrowed from the Halgrad Short Story 'The Castellan's Sword', which features in the rulebook. Coincidentally, that story featured Northmen fighting Gold Elves, as well!
The elves were led by Vahlrathis, a Slayer armed with two Swords, and the Northmen were led by Ignir, a Soldier with two Axes. The Northmen Leader was also accompanied by a Second, in the form of Ingrid, a Seeress (and Ignir's sister!).
Finally, the battlefield was also home to a small group of Forsaken, the mad descendants of Halgrad's residents, those who could not escape the Tear.
Ignir inhaled, his breath steaming in the night air, smelling of damp, sweat and rotten flesh. His warriors gathered all about him, a host of half-mad axemen of the Gore Hounds tribe. They cackled and boasted, and wagered on which of them would spill the next blood. Ronta seemed the most likely, he had slew three men already, bone-clad maniacs known as the Forsaken, it made sense to Ignir that the trend would continue. Ingrid was on her knees, silent amongst the noise, her lips moving wordlessly, and her eyes vacant. He would have need of her visions, before the day was done. Movement caught his eye, at the far side of the market, a glitter of distant golden scalemail. Grimly Ignir placed his helmet atop his head, and growled an advance.
The battle raged for 10 turns. The Denizens were wiped out quickly, caught between the player Warbands, and soon northman and elf fell upon each other, blades whirling.
Ignir fell to a stray arrow, and the Northmen Warband Routed. In the end, the elves emerged victorious, managing to inflict just two more wounds than the Northmen!
