Meet the Forsaken, Halgrad’s Human Residents

The Tear did not claim all of Halgrad’s people. Some managed to survive, cowering in the deepest vaults or holiest places while death and damnation took the city. When they finally emerged from their shelters, they found the Eternal City broken beyond recognition; demons capered in the shadows, and the dead never stayed so for long.

At first, many attempted to flee north via the Bay of Bones, or south by the Funnelweb Fen, but Halgrad would not let them go. Great beasts burst from the depths in a shower of ocean spray, sinking any vessel that dared brave the waters, and in the Fen, great, water-walking spiders dragged victims silently back to their web-strewn nests. With escape no longer an option, only one goal remained: survive.

The Forsaken are the descendants of these survivors, shaped by a life of isolation, madness and torment. They are a demented, tribalistic people, made up of demon-worshippers, cannibals and worse. They see Halgrad not as a ruin, but as a crucible in which only the strongest endure, and when outlanders are found encroaching upon Forsaken territory, they are met with bronze, steel and sharpened stone.

On the tabletop, the Forsaken are Denizen Units, living hazards that will attack Player Warbands on sight. They favour ambush tactics and frenzied assaults. Some carry arcane witchbrands, blazing blue torches that  silence the spells of those who draw too near.

So what do you make of the Forsaken, are they victims that should be pitied, or monsters to be wiped out? Let us know in the comments!
